Biography - CCOSMO
CCOSMO is a pop singer - and yet the opposite of the 'German pop singer' cliché. The 26-year-old Berlin resident is not a cardboard figure with a predetermined image, not the type of talent show winner who unquestioningly accepts the lyrics of some songwriter, not an influencer who suddenly makes music at the peak of his engagement. Rather, CCOSMO is a creative mastermind, a seeker, a survivor full of ingenuity. Completely self-taught and driven by a DIY spirit, the all-round artist has actually always been in him - CCOSMO was first a producer, then an editor, then a lyricist. If you asked him about his career, he would use the term "coincidence" in the second sentence at the latest - he is not a self-promoter, not an imposter, not an alpha male either, more someone who just does things instead of talking too much, a nice, open, and funny guy. Someone who is surrounded by a wide circle of old acquaintances. Someone who lets life carry him along without forgetting to question himself along the way. His lyrics are characterized by self-searching and reflection - always personal, always authentic, often almost diary-like and free of poses or pathos. Musically, CCOSMO has found his niche at the interface between atmospheric German pop, alternative and rap attitude. The melodies are as simple as they are catchy, the tempos vary, sometimes R&B influences make their way through, sometimes his sound is reminiscent of contemporary dream pop.
Growing up in Osnabrück, CCOSMO came into contact with music at an early age. Wherever he goes, some classic is playing in the background. His grandfather runs a record store in the city center, has made a name for himself as a soul DJ since the 1970s, and supplies CCOSMO with CDs, knowledge, and inspiration from a young age. Given this background, it is no wonder that CCOSMO - at the time extremely fascinated by the sound of a certain J Dilla - bought an MPC1000 as a teenager, used vinyl samples to create boom-bap beats, and soon stopped taking school quite so seriously. Without any music theory training worth mentioning, CCOSMO quickly became a sought-after producer in his Osnabrück bubble. He learned recording skills and recorded his first rap tracks - sometimes the vocals came from his brother, sometimes from his school friends, some of whom still accompany him on his journey today. CCOSMO paints pictures, teaches himself to cut, stumbles through the last years of school, gets his high school diploma and starts studying art to become a teacher in Osnabrück. He stays enrolled at the university for a long time, although he is rarely there, shoots music videos for rappers from the Osnabrück area, works on new songs in his own little room and becomes more and more active in songwriting in sessions with other artists. At some point CCOSMO drops out of his studies and earns his money as a pizza baker, thus cross-financing his passion for art. When he makes music with his brother again - CCOSMO has long been producing on the computer - he sings a hook himself for the first time. He feels that a knot has been broken in that moment. CCOSMO soon writes his first verse of his own, lends his voice to increasingly longer song passages, and becomes more and more of a solo artist. At the end of 2020, between two shifts at the pizza shop, he uploaded his first song, "Late Night Tears and Vodka," to Spotify, which he had made with Day One Burt Cash. CCOSMO shot the accompanying video on his own. In February 2021, he followed up with his second single, "Lost in Dir." When major labels knocked on his door for the first time, CCOSMO blocked them for the time being and decided to continue releasing independently. More singles were released, the numbers rose organically, but in January 2022 they made a noticeable jump: "Quicksand," a piece that, in typical CCOSMO style, thrived on improvisation, minimalism, and a catchy hook, changed his life for good. From now on, he could concentrate entirely on music and signed with Warner Music. A few months later, for the sake of music, he moved to Berlin and released "Chicago," the first precursor to his debut EP "Nähe / Distanz," into the world. The first coherent project will be released in May 2023 — it is the end of a long journey and at the same time the start of an exciting career.
