Whether Undine, Rusalka or Arielle, mermaids and water nymphs are still very popular in children's literature today. The fascination with creatures that can move between worlds as half human and half animal is unbroken. And so many of us would like to switch back and forth between reality and fairy tales. But even in the most beautiful water world, it can sometimes get pretty boring if you have no playmates, and that it can even get pretty cold without love - Hans Christian Andersen's mermaid can tell you a thing or two about this. She falls in love with a prince and puts herself in great danger. An adventure begins that literally vanishes into thin air at the end.
“The Little Mermaid” by Ákos Hoffmann is, after “Peter and the Wolf” and “The Carnival of Animals,” one of the most frequently played orchestral pieces for children in German-speaking countries.
