Seit über hundert Jahren verzaubert Engelbert Humperdincks Märchenoper »Hänsel und Gretel« nun schon Generationen von jungen Opernbesuchern. Bezeichnenderweise fand die Uraufführung dieser Oper am Vorabend eines Heiligen Abends statt. Und noch heute erscheint Hänsel und Gretel alljährlich zur Weihnachtszeit auf den Spielplänen fast aller Opernhäuser.

Ein Werk für Kinder, die ihre Eltern einmal mit in die Oper nehmen wollen: Alexander Mudlagk gestaltete mit Kostümen und Bühnenbild eine fabelhafte Szenerie, die Traumwelt und Realität in diesem Märchenklassiker poetisch verbindet.
Mit ihrer Mischung aus spätromantischem Schmelz und volkstümlichen Melodien ist die Oper alle Jahre wieder ein Muss.
