Beethoven's Ninth Symphony has always stood for brotherhood and international understanding. The "Ode to Joy", which Beethoven sets to music in the final chorus, is still a symbol of peace among people and is considered the high point of his compositional work.

The Altenburg Gera Theater is continuing the tradition of ending the year with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony this year. The classic to end the year is presented by the Altenburg Gera Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of General Music Director Ruben Gazarian. The solo parts are performed by singers from the Altenburg Gera Theater's music theater ensemble: Anne Preuß (soprano), NN (mezzo-soprano), Isaac Lee (tenor), Johannes Beck (bass). The opera choir and the Gera Philharmonic Choir also sing.
