Information about the event

Hardly any other name is mentioned as often when it comes to defining the space between classical and electronic music as that of the Berlin-based pianist, composer and producer. His unconventional approach to an ancient instrument played thoughtfully and intimately and his sonic alchemy of ambient textures and atmospheric electronics have earned him many fans around the world. Numerous tours and concerts around the globe have cemented his reputation as an exceptional instrumentalist and fascinating live musician. His albums have received international acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and his live shows are regularly sold out.

Following his first solo piano works and a collaborative recording with cellist Anne Müller, Nils Frahm's groundbreaking album Felt was released in 2011 on Erased Tapes Records. Two years later and after extensive touring, Frahm returned to critical acclaim with his album Spaces, expressing his love of experimentation and answering his fans' call for a record that truly reflects what they experience during his live shows. In 2015, Frahm launched Piano Day, an official global body formed with his closest friends to celebrate the piano through various innovative piano-related projects and concerts around the world. That same year, Frahm's first film score release Music For The Motion Picture Victoria, written for the one-take feature film directed by Sebastian Schipper, won the prestigious German Film Award for Best Soundtrack. Other film credits include a collaborative score with Woodkid for Ellis, a short film by French artist JR starring Robert De Niro, and contributions to James Gray's Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt and Julian Rosefeldt's Manifesto starring Cate Blanchett.

After the release of his album All Melody in 2018, Frahm took his live show on a two-year tour around the world with over 180 sold-out performances, including Brooklyn Steel in New York, Le Trianon in Paris, the Sydney Opera House and the prestigious Hall 1 at Funkhaus Berlin. In December 2020, he released the concert film Tripping with Nils Frahm, in which he tries to freeze a moment of this journey and capture his concerts in picture and sound. The film is produced by the label and production company LEITER in collaboration with Plan B Entertainment.

In celebration of Piano Day, Nils Graz shared in March 2021 that while his seven-track album 2X1=4 with FSBlumm, out on LEITER in September 2021, finds him unexpectedly exploring a dub-influenced universe. Nils' latest release "Old Friends New Friends" is a collection of 23 solo piano tracks, almost all of which are previously unreleased and, for one reason or another, left out of previous albums and projects.

In September 2022, Nils released his critically acclaimed, expansive new album Music For Animals: at ten tracks and over three hours long, it is an ambitious and compelling set that is unlike anything Nils has released before. He returned to the live stage for the first time since 2019, performing at the Sydney Opera House in June for the world premiere of his current global tour called Music For. Since then, he has been touring the world again, presenting brand new music that moves between the worlds of experimental, ambient and electronica.
