It all started with "Sympathique". In 1994, pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale wanted to go into politics in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. But then he founded Pink Martini, a small orchestra that would spread good cheer with a mix of jazz, classical and old-school pop. Sympathique, the first song by the twelve-person orchestra, fought for the title of song of the year in France in 1997 with the extraordinary voice of singer China Forbes. The formation now fills concert halls from Greece to New Zealand and works with stars and orchestras from all over the world. Pink Martini sings in English and Arabic, Spanish and Japanese, Portuguese and modern Greek and so on and so forth. The album Get Happy alone, which was released in 2013, features singing in nine languages. Boss Thomas M. Lauderdale says: "Pink Martini is a rollicking, once-around-the-world adventure."
