“The Impossibles” – reading with concentrated acting
Devid Striesow, Meret Becker, Claudia Michelsen, Ronald Zehrfeld, Matthias Koeberlin and Thomas Loibl stage a highly topical piece on prenatal diagnostics
A German couple travels to England to conceive a child in a private clinic using in vitro fertilization. Three embryos are created, but only one will be implanted. At this moment, a speculative preview of the most important events between birth and death begins. In a parallel montage, the three possible lives of the embryos - Amelie, Max and Fabian - are told: What makes life happy? Is DNA really the blueprint that determines everything? Which of the three lives is the most worth living? Three possibilities are heard, and the parents will choose one. What remains: the impossible ones.
Devid Striesow, who has provided a brilliant replacement for Jan Josef Liefers on several occasions with his usual precision, puts the master of ceremonies in a brilliant light. The way he pulls all the strings together, acting mainly as narrator and also reading some of the supporting roles with a lot of humor, is a brilliant performance. With a calm voice and expression, he leads the audience through the story of the evening.
The artists' exuberant joy of playing, the enthusiastic audience, the roles perfectly and thoughtfully cast by Simone Henke, the range of emotions that are evoked on this evening - it works!
