In einem amerikanischen Urlaubshotel verliebt sich während der 1960er-Jahre ein naives Arzttöchterchen in einen Tänzer aus einem vor allem aus der Sicht des Vaters fragwürdigen sozialen Milieu. Sie springt für dessen Partnerin ein und bekehrt den Vater von seinen Vorurteilen. Der Überraschungserfolg der Kinosaison 1987/88 entpuppt sich als inhaltlich und formal gleichermaßen biederer Unterhaltungsfilm, der leichte Anrüchigkeit mit sentimentaler Moral zu kombinieren versucht, in der Präsentation von Tanzszenen und Liebesromanze mit Happy-End aber ganz offensichtlich einen "zeitgeistlichen Nerv" getroffen hat.
