Wenzel remains true to himself and doesn't care about pigeonholes or fashionable attitudes. His work draws from an almost inexhaustible source. In recent years Wenzel has surprised people with many CD productions. New, unpublished songs, settings by Johannes R. Becher, Christoph Hein, Theodor Kramer, Woody Guthrie. Early songs that have almost been forgotten come together in this concert with new and current ones. Melancholy, full of life, subversive, warm-hearted, cynical, delicate and direct. Wenzel remains a refugee from the demands of the world. He defies the heavy seas with bittersweet irony. A lover who never half-loved and never played lightly with his fool's bells, one who distributes and takes with full ladles, a wise man on whose ark the eternal couples embrace: happiness and anger, love and time, escape and shelter, moment and era. Magic and mind. First and last day. Truths and beautiful lies.
Born in 1955 in Kropstädt near Wittenberg, Wenzel has been an integral part of the German song and cultural scene since 1976. Wenzel is an author, composer, musician, singer, actor and director. Tours took him through France, Austria, America, Nicaragua, Cuba, Turkey, among others. Wenzel was on stage with Arlo Guthrie, Randy Newman, Billy Bragg, Konstantin Wecker and many other musicians. Wenzel has received honors from the GOLDEN AMIGA, the Heinrich Heine Prize, the German Cabaret Prize, the German Record Critics' Prize (eight times), as well as the Song Best List Prize.
