Ian Anderson und die Band Jethro Tull sind eine der erfolgreichsten und best\u00e4ndigsten Progressive Rock Bands der Welt. Anfang Februar 1968 erschien Jethro Tull erstmals unter diesem Namen im ber\u00fchmten Marquee Club in der Wardour Street, London. Schnell baute die Band dort und in den vielen anderen kleinen Blues-Clubs und Pubs in ganz England eine Fangemeinde auf und erlangte beim Sunbury Jazz and Blues Festival im Sommer 1968 breite mediale und \u00f6ffentliche Anerkennung, wo sie der \u00dcberraschungshit der Veranstaltung waren.
\nTull nahm mit der Originalbesetzung - bestehend aus Anderson, Cornick, Bunker und Abrahams - auf und ver\u00f6ffentlichten ihr erstes Album \u201eThis Was\u201c sp\u00e4ter in diesem Jahr. Nach dem Weggang von Mick Abrahams und seiner Abl\u00f6sung durch Martin Barre, wechselten im Laufe der Jahrzehnte etwa drei\u00dfig weitere Musiker, von denen einige f\u00fcr einige Monate, andere f\u00fcr die l\u00e4ngere Zeit blieben.
\nObwohl Ian Anderson heute seinen eigenen Namen in Verbindung mit den Tull-Auftritten und dem Repertoire verwendet, hat die Marke Jethro Tull bis heute Bestand. Als Autor, Produzent, Fl\u00f6tist, S\u00e4nger und Gelegenheitsgitarrist tritt Anderson mit der Band jedes Jahr typischerweise in 80 - 100 Shows in vielen L\u00e4ndern der Welt auf.
