In 2011, a ship left its home port in Schleswig-Holstein, heading for the top of the German music scene. Santiano is the name of this ship - and it is just as successful today as it was then. Five singing and music-making sailors steer the boat: Hans-Timm Hinrichsen, Bj\u00f6rn Both, Axel Stosberg, Andreas Fahnert and Peter David Sage. In addition to guitar, bass and drums, instruments such as harmonica, accordion, mandolin and various percussion instruments help Santiano to achieve its characteristic sound. This is a mix of sea shanties, folk sounds and pop, rock and hit elements, which can be aptly described as shanty rock. Incidentally, all of the guys can sing - after all, shanties simply sound better in a choir.<\/p>\n
When Santiano came together in 2011, the band members already had plenty of experience in music and stage performances. The brilliant idea of founding a shanty band came from Flensburg music producer Hartmut Krech. None of the men involved could have imagined that the project would be so successful. When the debut album \u201cBis ans Ende der Welt\u201d was released in 2012, it hit like a cannonball from a pirate ship: Santiano catapulted straight to number 1 in the German album charts. Their mixture of traditional folk and sea shanties such as \u201cAlle, die mit uns auf Kaperfahrt fahren\u201d (All those who go on a pirate voyage), \u201cWhiskey in the Jar\u201d and \u201cGarten Eden\u201d (a German interpretation of \u201cScarborough Fair\u201d) thrilled listeners. Accordingly, people flocked to Santiano\u2019s cabin on their subsequent tour.<\/p>\n

With their modern interpretations of traditional songs, Santiano convey the feeling of community that once held men together on the high seas.
