With his debut album \u201cwir werden nur was wir schon sind\u201d the New Wave artist fiio cements a permanent place for himself in German-speaking indie.<\/p>\n

"We are only becoming what we already are" is characterized by multifaceted instrumentals that range from indie rock to indie pop, covering everything in between and blurring genre boundaries. The guitar, whether acoustic or electronically amplified, is the central figure, loyal companion and second voice on fiio's album. This strong connection between instrument and musician means that the 15 songs are permeated by a pulsating singer-songwriter core. Lyrics fit the riffs, chords fit the words and vice versa. A symbiosis that benefits each other. Sometimes this musical center is tightly wrapped, sometimes the approach is rawer and more minimalist. The album is many things, but not monotonous.<\/p>\n

As a singer-songwriter, fiio straddles the line between pop and alternative. Lyrics about growing up or growing old, the internet and coming of age romances between light and heavy. Here and there, fiio appears ironic, hedonistic and exalted, only to present himself in an intimate and introverted way the next moment. Marked by an intro and outro that contrasts man with machine and illustrates their capacity for emotional understanding, "we will only become what we already are" is an intimate, honest insight into the endlessly revolving, exciting world of thoughts of a young person between being overwhelmed and finding himself.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
