The music of London-born harmonica player, singer and composer Steve Baker is accomplished and stylistically diverse. His songs span a wide range from groovy Americana, blues and country to funk and acoustic rock. What they all have in common, however, is Baker's clearly audible pop sensibility, which gives his compositions a very unique character, less cliched and with catchy choruses.
Als innovativer und stilistisch vielseitiger Pionier an der Mundharmonika genießt Steve Baker seit langem einen internationalen Ruf. Mit seinem 2018 erschienenen Soloalbum „Perfect Getaway“ sowie dessen Nachfolger „The Great Divide“ (2020) legte er erstmals die Rolle des Begleitmusikers ab und zeigte sich als überzeugender Frontmann, der seine spannenden Eigenkompositionen mit viel Herzblut und Können präsentiert. Im Spätsommer 2023 erschien nun sein drittes Album „Too Much Is Never Enough“, eingespielt mit einer neuen akustischen Besetzung.
The combination of harmonica, guitar, double bass, percussion and three-part vocals is captivating, rhythmically demanding and delicate. Tonal richness alternates with airy openness, and the sparsely arranged band sound is characterized by astonishing dynamics. The songs radiate with attitude and strike a deeply personal note that reflects our turbulent times. Baker's inimitable harp playing is by no means neglected.
