The TIEFBASSKOMMANDO—consisting of rappers Eisberg, Double G, Shoki, Don Juan, and MC Kneipenkrieger, producer Retado, and videographer Downtown Destruction (DDP)—has transformed self-taughtness into a virtue, the collective into a front-line MC, and destructiveness into entertainment. With sheer arrogance, a rough underground attitude, and an unprecedented dose of Berlin ignorance, the "TBK family" peers disguisedly ironically into the abysses of human thought. Drug mania, exaggerated obscenity, and utterly obtuse punchlines collide with keen social criticism, subcultural references, shifts in perspective, and lived-out sex positivity—rap from the West Berlin school clashes with rough breakbeats and hyperpop influences. In short: TBK music is horror film cinema, escalation in a techno basement, action in a subway tunnel, and dimly lit pub night all at once; it's riot, it's tug-of-war, it's meme, it's great art. "Why? That's why!"
