Manchmal beginnt eine Geschichte nicht am Anfang, sondern im Echo. Ein Gitarrenakkord, der nachhallt wie eine Erinnerung, eine Stimme, die sich anfühlt, als hätte sie die Jahre überdauert ohne leiser zu werden. Drei Jahrzehnte nach ihrem Debüt holen Placebo genau dieses Echo zurück – und stellen fest, dass es nie wirklich verschwunden war.
Wer einmal erlebt hat, wie Molkos Stimme einen Raum durchschneidet, weiß, dass hier keine Nostalgie verwaltet wird. Es ist eher ein Dialog zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Die neuen Versionen tragen noch immer die Nervosität der Neunziger in sich, aber auch die Wucht einer Band, die gelernt hat, sich selbst zu vertrauen. Es geht nicht um Verbesserung, sagen sie, sondern um Vollendung.
Vielleicht ist das der eigentliche Kern dieses Projekts: ein Innehalten, ohne stillzustehen. Ein Blick zurück, der nicht verklärt, sondern schärfer macht, was damals schon angelegt war. In einer Gegenwart, in der Fragen nach Identität, Körper und Zugehörigkeit wieder mit neuer Härte verhandelt werden, wirken diese alten Songs plötzlich wieder erstaunlich aktuell.
Und dann ist da noch die Bühne. Dort, wo alles begann und sich immer wieder neu erfindet. Im Herbst kehren Placebo genau dorthin zurück auf große Deutschlandtour, mit Songs der ersten beiden Alben, von denen einige seit über zwanzig Jahren nicht mehr live gespielt wurden. Ein Jubiläum, ja. Aber vor allem: ein Versprechen.
