At the end of June, Robert Cray will be celebrating a special anniversary with three dates in Germany. The tour is called "2025 Out Driving Around Tour: Groovin' 50 Years". Since founding his band in 1974, the name of the US guitarist/singer has stood for a "popular mixture of Memphis soul, rhythm & blues and modern rock" that is particularly popular in concert (Rock Music Lexicon). Critics, audiences and his colleagues have an unrivalled appreciation for the "hottest blues man who never picked cotton" (New Musical Express). He was selected by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards as part of Chuck Berry's backing group for the film "Hail! Hail! Rock'n'Roll", performed on Tina Turner's and Eric Clapton's world tours, and appeared on albums by blues legend John Lee Hooker. The Robert Cray Band has recorded around twenty recordings themselves. He, Richard Cousins (bass), Dover Weinberg (keyboards) and drummer George Sluppick are undoubtedly spoiled for choice when it comes to putting together a representative cross-section for their concert program!
